Downtown Grand Rapids

About Downtown

Plaza Towers is ideally located to enjoy all that downtown Grand Rapids has to offer. And there is much to enjoy. The Ionia Avenue entertainment district is just two blocks away. Dozens of great restaurants, theaters and world renowned museums are all within a very short walk. In addition to all of the fun things there are two hospitals, a world-class medical research facility and a several college campuses. And, of course, downtown Grand Rapids is home to a thriving business and residential community.

Plaza Towers is in the heart of it all. Connected to the enclosed and climate-controlled skywalk, you are conveniently connected to much of downtown: The Van Andel Arena, DeVos Performance Hall, three hotels, 11 restaurants and the new convention center, DeVos Place. All are accessible without having to go outdoors.

Museums

Grand Rapids has a wealth of museums, all within walking distance. The best known is the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, located just across the river. Gerald Ford, our 38th President, is buried on the grounds of the museum. Also a short walk away is the new Grand Rapids Art Museum, internationally known for its distinguished design and LEED gold certification. In addition to these two museums, you can visit the Van Andel Public Museum and several well-known art galleries.

Rosa Parks Circle

The park, just 1 block away, was designed by world-famous designer Mia Lin (designer of the Viet Nam War Memorial in Washington, D.C.). Dedicated to the American civil rights pioneer, Rosa Parks, the Circle is home to numerous activities including a weekly summer concert series (Blues on the Mall) and the very popular ice skating in the winter months. The grassy areas, lovely trees and water offer a great place to relax outdoors.

Sports

Connected by the indoor skywalk or 1 block away by street is the Van Andel Arena. It is home to the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins and the AFL Rampage. Additionally, the arena hosts numerous other sporting events, including pre-season Detroit Pistons game, NCAA Regional Hockey finals, WWF wrestling, professional bull riding and even Monster Truck competition.
